Rural Electrification — DDUGJY
Under the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY), TANGEDCO has been working towards 100% rural household electrification. Tamil Nadu was the first state in India to achieve 100% village electrification in 1992. The DDUGJY scheme further ensures that every household, including Below Poverty Line (BPL) families, receives an electricity connection.
- Free service connections to BPL households
- Strengthening of rural distribution infrastructure
- Installation of additional distribution transformers in rural areas
- Extension of LT lines to unserved habitations
R-APDRP (Restructured Accelerated Power Development and Reforms Programme)
Under the R-APDRP scheme, TANGEDCO has implemented IT-enabled systems for distribution management including:
- Part A — IT infrastructure: GIS mapping, consumer indexing, SCADA/DMS, meter data acquisition, energy auditing
- Part B — Network strengthening: upgrading sub-stations, replacing old conductors, installing capacitor banks, improving power quality
